I remember when we had a fact war. So lets turn it into a little game!!

So the rules are:

You write a TRUE fact.
Your fact had to have something to do with the fact above you.

For example:

Butterflies taste with their feet.

Well I guess I'll just go off of the last one you posted.

Barack Obama is actually not the first African American president.

Thomas Jefferson- son of a half Native American mother and a half-black father.
Andrew Jackson- Son of an Irish woman and a black man. His older brother was even sold as a slave.
Abraham Lincoln-Father was one of his mothers black slaves. His mother was supposedly Ethiopian.
Warren Harding- his great grandmother was black
Calvin Coolidge-his mother had black ancestry

Although only two of these presidents are half-black, all of these men were elected during a time when to have even one drop of african american blood in you made you automatically black. So Obama is actually our 6th black president, or our 3rd half-black president.

Although, calling him black, rather than mixed, is just like calling him white. He is both and he is neither. How many people call Obama our White president? None? That's what I thought.

Obama is just the first to admit to his heritage. It is the fact that he he admitted his heritage and was still elected (although he looks black, so it would be stupid of him not to admit it, while these other men looked mostly white) that is what is such a breakthrough for our country.

Obama is recognized as the first black president.

Several of the aforementioned presidents were also thought of as the first black presidents.

Calling him the first black president is part of the election propaganda. People recognize or think he is the first black president because that is what they were told, not because it is true.

Like I said, the breakthrough isn't because he's part black, the breakthrough is because people knowingly elected him even though or because he is part black. None of the others were elected by people who knew their heritage.

Obama is SEEN as the first black president. He does not call himself the first black president. There is a difference between what other people see, and what how he sees himself. He said he didn't see himself as black, but the way people see him is as BLACK.
